I'm not neglecting this place

I just have major avoidance issues when I fall behind on a project I was doing so well with to start out. Isn't that how it usually goes, though? You start out strong and then all of a sudden things crop up and get in the way and it's all just a sort of mess?

Anyhow, to keep you all entertained in the meantime, Brandy from Stitchblade seems intent upon getting me to expose myself. (I know, she's crazy, right? It's in the best way possible of course, but still!) But isn't that what a blog is for? Exposing yourself? So here I go with...

Ten Random Facts About Me

  • I have a nose piercing
  • I have six tattoos with the intent of getting more
  • I am attempting to write a book
  • I procrastinate... a lot... like a LOT a lot
  • Every day I wear at least one handmade article of clothing or accessory
  • I'm obsessed with hats/head accessories
  • I love reading
  • Secretly I really enjoy being "domestic"
  • I am prior active duty Navy, and I miss it
  • I love Chinese buffets
Phew, that wasn't as difficult as I thought. I'm supposed to send it on, but I haven't quite been reading other people's blogs very often (shame on me, I know), so I'm going to have to leave this here and say:
If you read this and haven't done it yet - do it! Do it now! And link it to me, baby!

Stagnancy. Not Yet Procrastination!

Yesterday was a huge blur of working on the computer. And, surprisingly, not once did I manage to pop in here. Go figure, I know. But, because I was so busy, I didn't get any knitting done. Sad me.

However, I'm finding it to be a good thing that at least I'm keeping busy, rather than just procrastinating getting the project done. My projected finish date is sometime near the end of the week, which is still achievable! I can still do it!

Would you like to know what I was doing yesterday? You got it, kiddos.

Author Portfolio

Yes, that is indeed me and my writings! Yay! I got this awesome gig working for Miracle Diapers for their Communication & Correspondence Team, which has me so stoked! Woo! Can't wait to help them do amazing things for people!

I've got a massive to do list today, but I'm hoping to have some update photos for y'all tonight! Later!

Even Further!

Yaaaaaay for more progress!

The girls have been keeping me insanely busy, but somehow I managed to get some more accomplished. I'm quite proud of it, actually!

I'm pretty sure the bottom edge rolling probably means I'm knitting it a bit tightly, but I'm willing to accept that just so long as this thing comes out okay!

I think, grand total, it's about six inches in length, which means I only have ten more to go! Barring any other wonderful Parades del Destruction by either my youngest or my own klutziness, I think I should have it done by the end of the week! Yay!

Feature Presentation

We interrupt our usual routine of whinging about being completely incapable when it comes to knitting to provide you with something truly interesting!

Seems that a dear WAHM-friend of mine has moved her shop from Etsy on over to Hyena Cart! How exciting! It's going to open up a whole new demographic of customers for her and I'm so happy for her!

Who is this WAHM you might ask? Why, none other than the absolutely stunning Brandy of Stitchblade, that's who!

Wait, what? You don't know about Stitchblade? Hmmm, how to explain... it's only some of the best handcrafted goodies ever! We're talking recycled wool longies and shorties, aprons, headbands, tutus... Any fabric this mama can get her hands on, she turns into some amazing stuff!

Need proof? Fantastic. It's what I'm here for.

Children's Owl Print Headband. This one I got as part of winning a contest on the Stitchblade Blog. It also got me featured for an interview there, too. I highly recommend her blog. It is not only an amazing read, she's got some jammin' tunes up on there.

Adult Tie-On Style Reversible Headband. This one I seriously could not pass up. I'm a huge fan of the tattoo print fabric, and on the other side is some seriously lush leopard print fabric. Multi-functional accessories are always a huge hit!

Olive the Blues Grow-With-Me Longies. These longies are the absolute best. Not only are they made out of the cutest recycled wool possible, they're extra long in the legs and have an extra long rise. This photo was from earlier this year. With some clever folding, my 6 month old could fit into these. Now, with not so much folding, my 12 month old still fits! And it will still fit her for a long time to come! It's a beautiful thing!

I've got a couple more items of Brandy's, to include a gorgeous tie-back play dress, and a super artsy tote bag. She's got some really cool stuff and I highly suggest you check out her brand new Hyena Cart shop!

What are you waiting for? GO!

Positive Progress, Hooray!

It appears the third time is the charm! Today's progress went well. No Baby Godzilla attacks, and not even a single hole. Huzzah! I may, in fact, actually finish this project!

Photographic proof that I'm not completely incapable of knitting:

Yes, that would be my mouse pad in the first photo. Yes, I draw on my mouse pad. Like a teenager. It's my procrastination method.

Crap On a Stick, People!

So, we all know from yesterday's post I hit the reset button. I started over after my beloved second daughter turned what would have been a neck warmer into streamers for her Parade Del Destructo. Having gotten so far the first time around, I was fairly confident going into it this time that I wouldn't have many, if any, problems whatsoever.

Confidence is my biggest downfall.

Exhibit A - I woke up this morning feeling super proud of how far I'd gotten.

Exhibit B - upon closer inspection I realize something is amiss.

Exhibit C - upon even closer inspection, I realize there are not one, but two somethings amiss.

Yes. That's my best attempt at an anime angry face.

TWO HOLES! What the crap? I mean, c'mon. I had to have noticed, right?

That said. Tomorrow. I am starting over. Again. Because I have no clue how to save this.

Bring it on, yarn. Bring it. I can keep going until you are no more! Do you hear me? No more!

Hitting the reset button

My youngest daughter, the light of my life, the glimmer in my eye, and the bane of my existence... I get up to go get a cup of coffee and what does she do? Well, let me back up.

See, I thought I was being smart. Put the yarn on your desk, we say. She's a small fry, we say. The little one won't get it there!

So we go to get a cup of coffee, because yesterday evening was quite unpleasant all around. It's also spilled over into today, but that's another post entirely. So there I am in the kitchen, minding my own, doctoring up my coffee with some heavy whipping cream - which is like adding clouds to heaven - and I didn't hear anything.

I did see something, though. When I returned to my desk and found my skein of yarn by my chair and a trail of yarn leading toward the back hallway, two knitting needles carelessly strewn like they were showing me which was she went, George.

And there, just inside her bedroom, stood my Breanne. She was smiling quite gleefully as she ripped out all those carefully knitted stitches and proceeded to drape the yarn over her hair like silly string.

If it were a crochet project, I would've been able to salvage it. But I have no stitch markers, I wasn't counting, and I'd been in the middle of a row when I'd gotten the hankering for caffeination. Which is why I simply snipped the yarn.

And started over.

The GC Knit-a-Long

So, anyone who knows me - and maybe you don't, but you will at some point, don't worry - knows that I'm an avid crochet fanatic. If you don't know, it should be pretty evident by my shop, Boho Baby Designs. (Not to be confused with the six or seven other Boho Baby shops out there. Who knew it was such an awesome name?)

Well, anyway, on Granola Chicks, we're doing a knit-a-long. Now, mind you, I tried knitting before. I really did. I gave it a whirl and wound up getting frustrated. Really. I was on the verge of finding some more creatively violent uses for those needles. I didn't, though, and now I'm so very thankful I didn't! Being able to knit as a group gave me a bit more confidence. The fact that the pattern is so easy makes it that much better.

All that said, I'm going to finally put this blog to use and chronicle my knit-a-long adventure. I think I'm doing pretty well, actually. (I know someone who knows far more about knitting than I will find this blog and will tell me a semi-trained chimpanzee can do better. Until then I'm enjoying my bubble of reality.)

Neck Warmer Pattern from Tangle

That's yesterday's progress. I'll post again once I've done my knitting for today!
